THE GOOD NEWS…
There are cleaner alternatives you can buy instead to have a healthier Thanksgiving table!
Check out some cleaner swaps below:
SHOPPING TIPS:
Fresh veggies vs canned or boxed
Buy as much Organic as possible
Skip all the cream and added dairy in recipes
Make your own vs buying premade
Reduce the sugar
Most importantly, READ THE INGREDIENTS before you buy anything! A good rule of thumb is if you can’t pronounce it or it’s not real food that you know, chances are it’s not good for you!
Recipe Swaps:
(Instead of this > Try this!)
Candied Yams > Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Canned Cranberry Sauce > Fresh Cranberry Sauce
Creamed Corn > Fresh Corn
Creamed Spinach > Sauteed Spinach
Macaroni and Cheese > Mashed Potatoes
Green Bean Casserole > Steamed Green Beans
Standard Turkey > Organic Local Turkey
Boxed Mashed Potatoes > Organic Fresh Mashed Potatoes
Reddi Whip or Cool whip > Homemade whipped cream
Making your own vs buying boxed or premade is a much healthier choice. Try making your own Cranberry sauce, gravy, mashed potatoes, whipped cream, etc.
Now before you buy that Butterball.. Let’s talk Turkey!
Conventional Turkeys are filled with hormones (to make them massive), antibiotics (so they don’t get sick in their close quarters) and go against any type of animal welfare… these are typically factory farmed turkeys aka STAY AWAY.
Free Range Turkey: This simply means the bird had access to the outdoors. Still pumped with antibiotics and hormones so not great.
Organic: A step in the right direction… no hormones or antibiotics however tehy can still be in tight, close quarters.
Organic and Pasture Raised: No hormones, no antibiotics, and fed their natural diet and free to roam in a natural state.
Local Farm Turkey: This is the best turkey you can buy! Research local farms near you, research the farm, ask questions, find a farm that raises organic pasture raised Turkeys!
