Ingredient Score:
The Alexia Foods White Cheddar Riced Cauliflower with Black Pepper receives a rating of 3 out of 5 green leaves. This product is firmly in the middle ground of healthy food options.
Made primarily from cauliflower, water, organic white cheddar cheese, and organic Parmesan cheese, this product also includes less than 2% of organic unsalted butter, corn starch, organic apple cider vinegar, sea salt, whey protein concentrate, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. While not entirely organic, it does use non-GMO ingredients, which is a positive attribute. However, it also contains corn starch, a potentially harmful additive, which detracts from its overall health value.
The cheese in this product is organic, which is a plus. The use of both white cheddar and Parmesan cheese adds to the nutritional content, providing a source of protein and calcium. The addition of organic unsalted butter and organic apple cider vinegar are also beneficial, offering healthy fats and probiotics.
The sea salt, garlic powder, and onion powder serve to enhance the flavor, though the salt also adds to the sodium content. Black pepper is a common spice with potential health benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties.
However, the presence of corn starch is a significant downside. Corn starch is often used as a thickening agent in processed foods, but it is high in calories and carbs, while offering little in the way of nutritional value.
The whey protein concentrate is another notable ingredient. While it can be a good source of protein, it is not organic and may contain traces of lactose, which could be problematic for those with lactose intolerance.
This product is a mixed bag. It has some commendable aspects, such as the use of non-GMO ingredients and organic cheese. But the inclusion of corn starch and non-organic whey protein concentrate makes it less than ideal for those seeking the healthiest options. With a green leaf rating of 3 out of 5, it’s a fair choice, but not the best one.
