What is it:

Bananas are tropical fruit from Southeast Asia grown in tropical climates. Bananas grow on trees and are typically peeled and eaten whole or sliced.

Rating:

Bananas are an excellent source of potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. Adequate potassium and magnesium intake both aid in lowering the risk of heart disease. Bananas are a rich source of fiber that feeds good bacteria in the gut and also are rich in antioxidants, which protect cells against free radicals that contribute to many different diseases. Bananas are high in carbohydrates and electrolytes, which make them excellent for consumption after a workout. High-carb foods help replenish muscle glycogen after intense exercise.
