Chromium Polynicotinate
Chromium Polynicotinate
Chromium Polynicotinate
What is it:
Chromium polynicotinate is a nutritional supplement that combines the essential mineral chromium with niacin (vitamin B3) in a form that is more easily absorbed by the body. Chromium polynicotinate is typically synthesized by reacting chromium chloride with niacin. It is commonly found in dietary supplements and certain food/beverage products to support blood sugar balance and provide nutritional fortification.
Rating:
Chromium supplementation has been demonstrated mixed efficacy in regulating blood sugar levels and other metabolic parameters in various populations of type 2 diabetic patients. The primary form of chromium that is researched is chromium picolinate, the supplemental form, which may produce different effects than chromium polynicotinate. A comparative study suggested that chromium chelate may not be effective in increasing insulin sensitivity. While more research is needed, there is no current research showing that long-term intake of chromium is toxic except in situations of severe excess.
