Guar Gum
Guar Gum
What is it:
Formulated from a legume called the guar bean, guar gum is an additive used as a gel to thicken and bind products. You’ll find it in many products, such as ice cream, yogurt, soup, vegetable juices, cheese, and cereals.
Rating:
Guar gum is rich in soluble fiber which is associated with various health benefits, including improving the health of the microbiome and metabolic parameters. It is derived from a legume and can act as a more natural alternative to other, more processed, and less naturally derived additives. As it is an undigestible fiber that is fermented by bacteria in the gut, it can cause digestive upset such as bloating and gas for some people.
