Honey

What is it:

Honey is a sweet liquid made by honey bees from plant nectar that is stored in bee colonies. Beekeepers extract the honey from the honeycomb, strain out wax and any other particles, and bottle it. Honey is used as a natural sweetener and is also included in many packaged goods. Honey is approximately 40% fructose and 30% glucose.

Rating:

While honey is a whole food sweetener that contains various beneficial minerals and antioxidants, it should be consumed in moderation as it is still very high in sugar which can have negative health effects such as increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Honey has been linked to many health benefits and has been used medicinally due to its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.
