Turbinado sugar is a type of natural cane sugar that undergoes minimal processing, retaining some of the natural molasses from the sugar cane. The production of turbinado sugar involves extracting the juice from sugar cane, clarifying it, and then evaporating the water to form sugar crystals. Unlike highly refined sugars, turbinado sugar is only partially centrifuged to remove impurities, leaving behind a light tan color and a mild molasses flavor. Turbinado sugar is commonly used in baking, beverages, and as a sweetener for various food products, providing a subtle caramel-like taste and texture.
Turbinado sugar is a less refined form of sugar that contains more trace nutrients and molasses, which may have potential health benefits. However, consuming high amounts of sugar in any form has been linked to many adverse health effects such as cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
