Ingredient Score:

Rated at 2 out of 5 green leaves, the YumEarth Organics Organic Sour Giggles® receive a low score due to the presence of several ingredients that raise health concerns. Despite its organic and non-GMO attributes, this product falls short on our scale of cleaner food options.

The primary issue lies with the inclusion of added sugars, specifically organic cane sugar, which significantly detracts from the product’s healthfulness. The organic cane sugar and citric acid contribute to the overall sugar content, leading to a reduction in the product’s score. Furthermore, the presence of organic flavors and malic acid, both classified as potentially harmful additives, further compromises the product’s standing. These components are often scrutinized for their potential effects on health and are not aligned with the ethos of clean eating.

Another ingredient contributing to the low score is organic palm oil. Palm oil, even when organic, is controversial due to the environmental impact of palm oil cultivation, which is associated with deforestation and habitat destruction. Moreover, palm oil is often viewed unfavorably in health-conscious circles due to its saturated fat content.

While the product does incorporate natural color sources derived from vegetables and fruits, such as turmeric, radish, sweet potato, carrot, and blackcurrant, and uses spirulina for coloring, these positive aspects are overshadowed by the aforementioned negatives.

The product’s low green leaf rating reflects its departure from the highest standards of clean eating. While it is commendable that the product avoids GMOs and maintains organic certification, the inclusion of added sugars, questionable additives, and palm oil undermines its potential to be a top choice for health-conscious consumers. For a product to be considered cleaner and healthier, a reformulation that addresses these concerns would be necessary.
